Today is a short but sharp climb, up and over the Col de Teghime, with a panorama over both the east and west coasts of Corsica. A real birdseye view! Drop down pass the vineyards of Patrimonio to the seaside town of Saint Florent. Saint Florent is called the Corsican “St Trop” with glitz yachts in the harbour and a lively quayside with restaurants and bars. A comfortable hotel by the sea is your stop tonight.
Saint Florent to Canari
From your nightstop you are heading to the village of Canari, on the cap. With the sea on your left you are heading up the West coast. The road clings to the every higher sea cliffs, passing tiny ports all the way to Nonza, be sure to stop and discover the village. Nonza is a beauty, with a perched tower and a remarkable black pebble beach far below. The road continues on, clinging to these very mineral cliffs before arriving in the hamlets that make up the village of Canari.
De Canari à Centuri
Setting out from Canari, your views become ever wilder, the maquis covered hillside, and the deep blue of the sea far below the road. Rounding cornice through the rocks on the fabulous Monte Minerviu this is some of the wildest and rugged coastline in Corsica. You soon arrive at Pino village, a sleepy place with beautiful buildings including Maisons Americaines, Convent and a Pisan tower. The road continues towards the village of Centuri and your hotel for tonight.
Centuri to Maccinaggio
Centuri is a beautiful Cap Corse fishing harbour, where fresh fish are landed daily, and the village seems lost in time. After making the climb out of the village you pass the Moulin Mattei, before rounding the top of the Cap Corse, with views out to the island of Giraglia and then the Tuscan Archipelago. You drop down to the village of Maccinagio and the busy pleasure port, for the end of the day. Your hotel tonight is a comfortable hotel with a pool.
Maccinaggio to Bastia
An easy day heading south along the flatter east coast, the headlands punctuated with Genoese watchtowers, with pretty villages nestled next to small beaches and vine covered slopes. The harbours are more open to the sea, on this more sheltered coast and the landscape has changed dramatically. It is an easy ride back to Bastia, past Meria, Pietracorbara, Sisco & finally the artists village of Erbalunga. Arrive back in Bastia and your comfortable central hotel.
