From Ajaccio to Cozzano
The journey to Cozzano takes a scheduled bus from Ajaccio, which you will have to pay for on the spot.
From Cozzano to Croci
From the gîte in the village of Cozzano, the route begins with a gradual climb through the valley. The path joins the GR20 towards Bocca Usciolu. Once you've reached this pass, take the Arête des Statues, a ridge that alternates between the eastern and western slopes, offering exceptional panoramic views. You'll enjoy splendid views of the sea and the mountain villages of the Taravo region. Continuing on the GR20, the path gradually rises to the Bocca di l'Agnone. The walk then continues across the Cuscionu plateau, characterised by its magnificent pozzines, spongy meadows dotted with small pools of water.
From Croci to Bavella
From the sheepfolds, the path climbs eastwards to join the dividing line between Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud, passing over the heights of Punta Tozzarella. Following this ridge, you'll reach the Bocca di Chiralba pass at 1,743 metres, then continue on to Bocca Stazzunara, perched at 2,025 metres above sea level. The crossing is through dense scrubland, dotted with alders and scattered granite boulders. The route continues with a technical descent through a chaos of rocks and large smooth slabs, leading directly to the Asinao refuge and the nearby sheepfolds. Once at the bottom of the Asinao valley, there are two options for reaching the Col de Bavella: take the alpine variant that crosses the impressive Aiguilles de Bavella, or opt for the classic GR20 route, which is less demanding but just as picturesque.
From Bavella to Conca
From the Col de Bavella, also known as the ‘Foce di Bavedda’, the GR20 trail follows an ancient path used by the people of Conca as a link between the mountains and the sea. The path winds through a splendid pine forest and leads to the spring nestling in the Cannone ravine. Continuing your ascent, you'll reach the Foce Finosa pass, perched at an altitude of 1202 metres. From here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Gulf of Porto-Vecchio, the cliffs of Bonifacio and even Sardinia on the horizon. The path then continues towards the Paliri refuge. A gradual descent awaits, punctuated by the Foce di Bracciu, the Bocca Villaghello and the Bocca d'Usciolu. This final stage takes you to Conca, a charming village that marks the end of your adventure on the legendary GR20.
