Leaving Corte, the GT20 will take you through the mountains to the south of the island, then on to the sea, finishing in Bonifacio. This is a self-guided point to point tour with 4 days of moderate level on an electric bike or advanced level on a bike with muscle power. Accommodation in ** and *** hotels.

This route crosses Corsica from the centre to the south, immersing you in a variety of landscapes. From Corte, it winds its way through mountains and villages to the Inzecca gorges, before reaching Ghisoni. The GT20 then climbs through the Marmano forest to the Col de Verde before descending to the Taravo valley. After Cozzano and Zicavo, the route crosses the Col de la Vaccia and the Cuscionu plateau, famous for its meadows and free-roaming horses. It then crosses the Alta Rocca and its stone villages, reaches Zonza and descends towards Levie and Carbini. As you approach the Grand Sud, panoramic views open up across Sardinia. After Sotta and the Chera hill, the main road will take you to Bonifacio and its port, the final point of this crossing.

Start in Corte

Corte, the former capital of Pascal Paoli's ‘Corsican nation’ (1755-1769), has a rich historical past. Once you've settled into your hotel, you can set off to explore the old town, with its steep streets dominated by its citadel.

Day 2

From Corte to Ghisoni

You'll leave the town of Corte behind and head for the south of the island, taking a route through the heart of Corsica, through mountains and villages. You'll alternate between main and secondary roads, passing through villages and scrubland, until you reach the Fium'Orbu river. The route then joins the Inzecca gorges, a narrow, wild gorge that leads to the village of Ghisoni, where the Regolo and Fium'Orbu valleys meet. This village has a rich religious heritage, with several churches dating from the XVᵉ and XVIIᵉ centuries.

Day 3

From Ghisoni to Zicavo

Leaving Ghisoni, the GT20 climbs through the Marmano forest to the Col de Verde, the highest point of the day. The route then veers off into the upper Taravo valley, a rural area where you'll come across both semi-free-range pigs and vast mountain landscapes. It then passes through the villages of Cozzano and Zicavo, which you leave behind to make your way towards the Col de la Vaccia. You will then follow the Cuscionu plateau, a high plateau offering rolling countryside dotted with pozzini (grassy water areas), where horses roam freely.

Day 4

From Zicavo to Carbini

Today's itinerary takes you on a tour of the Alta Rocca micro-region. You'll wind your way past major archaeological sites and tall granite houses to the village of Zonza. Between two villages, you'll catch a glimpse of the Aiguilles de Bavella, Corsica's iconic rocky peaks and an ideal playground for mountain sports. The route then takes you further down the valley to the village of Levie, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the archaeological sites of Capula and Cucuruzzu, before reaching Carbini, your destination for the day.

Day 5

From Carbini to Bonifacio

Leaving Carbini, you'll head for the south of the island via the Bacino pass, which marks the entrance to the Grand Sud Corse micro-region. The landscape then opens out onto the coastline of southern Corsica. Between the gulfs of Porto-Vecchio and Bonifacio, you can see Sardinia and the Lavezzi islands. The panorama closes in as you approach the commune of Sotta, through which you will discover some of its 36 hamlets. The hill of the village of Chera will be the last hurdle of this trip. You will then take the main road to Bonifacio and its marina.

At the end of your stage in Bonifacio. If you hired a bike, meet the hire company at 4 p.m. at the Bonifacio marina. Connection for Ajaccio, Porto Vecchio and Bastia by bus at 4.40pm.

Luggage transfers

You need to carry only with a water bottle, camera, picnic and wind jacket. The main luggage will be transported by vehicle between the different accommodations.

Level

A reasonable level of physical fitness is required. You must do at least one sporting activity once a week. Stages of 50 km to 60 km per day. Maximum cumulative elevation gain 1400 metres per day. First experience of a cycling tour is recommended. This tour can also be done with an electric bike.

Self-Guided Biking. We will provide you with a travel pack including a road map and GPS tracks. During your stay, our 24-hour assistance service will also be able to answer any questions you may have and, if necessary, give you advice on how to make the most of your stay.

Extensions

Extension: Return to Ajaccio by bike

At the end of your stay in Bonifacio, we suggest a three-day cycling extension back to Ajaccio.

Stage from Bonifacio to Sartène
 

On this first day, you'll discover the Freto micro-region, a wild territory. You'll pass to the east of Mont de la Trinité, alternating between land and sea, with a view of Bonifacio. At the Rocapina pass, you'll see the Rocapina lion, then head up the Ortolo valley to Sartène, where grapes are grown.

Stage from Sartène to Porto Pollo

This day will take you to the beaches of Porto Pollo. You'll discover the villages of Valinco, then Propriano, between mountain and sea. You'll then follow the coast to the Taravo plain and Porto Pollo.

Distance : 46 km ,  ascent/descent : +570 m / -970 m

Stage from Porto Pollo to Ajaccio 

The route passes through Serra Di Ferro, skirts the Cupabia beach, then climbs towards Coti-Chiavari before dropping into the Gulf of Ajaccio. A descent takes you back to the sea, which you then follow without interruption. From Porticcio, there are two options: take the sea shuttle to Ajaccio (€5/person + €3/bike) or bypass the airport on a dual carriageway (+18 km).
