La punta Muratello
Make your way to the Col de Vizzavona for your first hike on the GR 20 in the Monte d'Oro massif. The route joins the GR 20 at the Cascade des Anglais. You will follow the path that climbs along the Agnone river, passing beautiful sheepfolds. The path becomes steeper and more mineral under the foothills of Monte d'Oro, before reaching Punta Muratello at 2141 m. Return along the same path.
Lakes of the Restonica
A narrow road winds through the heart of the Restonica gorges, a splendid route that leads into a mountainous cirque, where two lakes of glacial origin nest. You will reach the Lac du Melo (1711 m), surrounded by grassy meadows, then Capitello at 1930 m. Take the GR 20 back to the ridge at the Capitello gap, which you will follow as far as Bocca a Soglia.
2024: Due to the damages caused by the severe storms in November 2023 the access road to the Restonica valley is closed. A shuttle bus will take you to Frassetta bridge and from there you can hike to the Melo sheepfolds or Melo lake for the sportiest.
Golo valley
In the morning, you will drive through the Scala di Santa Regina, then cross the Niolu, the shepherds' region, to find your accommodation. You'll then set off on the red and white tracks through the heart of the Valdu Niellu forest. As you climb, the forest becomes more scattered, and the great glacial valley of the Golo opens up before you. At the top of the valley, the GR 20 leads to the Ciutullu di i Mori refuge (1999 m), the highest in Corsica. Return along the same path.
Nino Lake
The walk starts at the Col de Vergio ski station and follows the GR 20 to Lake Nino. Most of the route is crested, offering uninterrupted views of the surrounding mountains, the highest on the island. Lac de Nino is a grassy plateau dotted with pools of water known as pozzines (wells in Corsican), where wild animals such as horses and cows graze, creating a unique spectacle. Return along the same path.
A Muvrella
You will take the road to the upper Asco valley at an altitude of 1422 m. This former ski resort reopened in winter 2016. Follow the GR 20 north-west to reach the A Muvrella summit at 2148m. The view of the highest mountains and the Bay of Calvi is superb. Return along the same path.
Monte Cintu
Starting from the resort, the GR 20 takes a steep, very mineral path, which climbs through rocky bars, a challenging route that leads to the highest point on the GR 20: the Pointe des Eboulis at 2607 m. It will take you less than an hour to reach the highest peak in Corsica, at 2706 m. Return along the same path.
